"Psy-Trance?" I hear you cry, cyber kids? Mass produced Euro Trance? Forget Flip and Fill, this is much different.

BluePrint is one of those slightly out of town clubs that is often worth a look if you can make the effort to find it. Tucked away amongst some shops on the Alfreton Road, the club offers servings of local musical talent in various styles including popular techno night Pure Filth and of course their Psy-Trance night Psycle.

Psy-Trance I hear you cry, cyber kids? Mass produced Euro Trance? Forget Flip and Fill and the like of GateCrasher, this is much different. There's a very friendly, laid back ambience descending over Blue Print on the second Saturday of the month. Enter soft mood lighting, drapes and wall hangings, scatter cushions and incense. They've even turned the back room into a spaced out spectacle of UV artwork, including shoals of glowing fish and magic mushrooms!

The main room features a blend of edgy trance and moody tech psychedelia being put out by some particularly talented local DJs including Seuss, Dark Angel and Snafu. To complement the busy feel of the main room they've got some well-produced computer and VJ visuals going on amongst the camo netting and lasers. Now I must confess I am a bit suspect of trance as a rule, too much euro pap being to blame, this I am pleased to say was nothing of the sort, clever, fast paced, and interesting with dark overtones to the epic sounds - its what trance should be.

However its not all psy-trance by any means, in the back room - amongst the UV fish - it's a decidedly funky feel with an assortment of pic 'n' mix house, latin, beats n breaks and ambient all diced and spliced by Olly D, Riffraff and Fildes.

The Downstairs bar was another twist to the evening, they had a live band called Left of the Dealer who were playing some thoughtful indie music, impressive stuff as well I might add. In between the acoustic sets it was time to sit back and chill to some dub, motown and soul divas being put our way by the Psycle residents. We had a fun and chilled out night amongst the shrooms and fish, well worth a look.
