With less than a week to go before it ends, make sure you go and check out the Surface Gallery’s annual International Postcard Show...
Based just outside of the heart of Hockley, the Surface Gallery is a gem for local aspiring artists.
The Postcard Show has been growing in popularity over the years, and this particular exhibition is an excellent opportunity for budding artists and recurring names from all over the world to get their work on display. There is no theme to follow, except that the art must be contained in the dimensions of a 6x4 postcard.
As such, there’s all sorts to see: from idyllic sunsets, to laser cut statements, to a Taylor Swift version of Girl with Pearl Earring. There are just under five hundred postcards, and having toured the gallery six or seven times myself, I keep finding something else to look at. The beauty lies in its diversity and within each unique piece.
Postcards sell at £15 each, making this a great way to buy an original piece of art.
While The Postcard Show is the main hit at the moment, be sure to explore upstairs and find the Focus exhibition on the second floor, which showcases a selection of NTU’s second-year photographers. And don’t leave without having a nosey in Le Louvre (the first-floor bathroom) to see some of StayC’s work.
Explore the exhibition at Surface Gallery until Saturday 11 February 2017.
We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
