Most of your current tour dates are sold-out. How much are you enjoying it?
We've just played the first date of the tour at Arts Club in Liverpool. That's a brilliant venue, it has steps at the back so it looks a bit like football stands when you look out on the crowd. It was an amazing atmosphere, we are at the point now where the fans are bouncing and singing along which is pretty mind blowing. We had just short of 500 people in there, and everyone was buzzing. One of our favourite gigs so far.

We've a sold out show in Nottingham this week and we are supporting the Jesus and Mary Chain in Birmingham the night after so we are on a high.

Critics have compared you to the likes of New Order, Editors and Interpol due to your dark, brooding sound. How would you describe your music for those that haven't listened to you before?
It's guitar / synth music. The lyrics are introspective but also joyous at times and we are big on hooks and great melodies. There is good variety in our live set and records. Some big dancy synth driven stuff, some big guitar riffs and some delicate ballads. It seems to be connecting with people anyway. The response to Cavalcade has been great, we have really passionate fans that help spread the word.

I saw you supporting James at Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall last December, and you were mightily impressive. How was the tour?
Thanks glad you enjoyed it. Supporting James was fantastic for us. We had built to a reasonable level before that tour, we had sold out Gorilla in Manchester for example and landed some decent festival slots but that tour was a game changer. We played 14 or so dates with them including venues like Brixton Academy, Manchester Arena. They also did a lot to champion us online and on Radio. We learned a great deal from them.

I'm aware you're playing at the Isle of Wight Festival in June. Have you got any more festivals lined up?
Yeah, we have just been announced for Dot To Dot Festival that runs across three cities, Manchester, Nottingham and Bristol. We are really excited about that one, it's a really cool festival. We have a couple of others too but can't say anything as yet.

There seems to have been a recent resurgence of indie bands coming out of Manchester - namely yourselves and Cabbage. Why do you think that is?
Hard to say why to be honest, it probably had more to do with what radio are choosing to play. It's good that the spotlight is back on Manchester though for sure.

Have you plans to release any new music in the near future?
We plan to have new stuff ready for the autumn.

The Slow Readers club are performing at The Bodega on Thursday 30 March 2017. The band play Dot To Dot Festival in Nottingham in May.
