When you’re a small business, networking is everything. The Girl Power T-Shirt launch and networking event, hosted at Minor Oak Co-Working, celebrated this message while discussing one very important subject: the power of female business.
Maddie Wallner (Thrift Generation) gathered up local business owners – women with something to say about the power of who you know and the importance of girl power. The result was an opportunity to try out some pretty delicious free samples from companies like Oozee Boozee Bakes, Augustmoon Tea and Monica’s Caribbean Kitchen, while discussing important topics with up-and-coming creators.
Dee Miller, owner of Minor Oak Co-working, was joined on stage by Sunita Passi, founder of Tri-Dosha, Debbie Clarke, creator of Blue Stockings and First Tuesday, Toni Jarvis, project director of the Tiger Community Enterprise Project, and Isi Dixon of Well Organised Marketing.
Each of these women recognise the importance of meeting like-minded people when trying to improve their trade, and shared their stories with a drive for improving the experiences of others. The most important message? You can’t do it alone.
Maddie aimed to celebrate and facilitate this type of networking, and achieved this goal in spectacular fashion. The creators of Re:Done (Emma Jane), Platypus clothing (Maxine Abbott and Sarah Esau), and henna artist, Gil Bains-Khosa – all Nottingham born businesses – came together to talk about the importance of Madi’s t-shirt design, and the necessity of networking.
Models showed off the design; a reclaiming of a highly-sexualised female image – the Playboy Bunny – and discussions were furthered by trailers for Reel Equality and Embrace documentaries. Finally, a flower lay was created over the course of the afternoon which encircled the unity the event was trying to highlight.
With so much going on and so many women in attendance, it’s no surprise the event was a roaring success with an inspiring atmosphere. In times like these, momentum is important to keep the girl power message moving forward, and strong, female business owners with vision coming together to start conversation is the way to do it.
Girl Power Networking Pop-up and T-Shirt Launch took place at MinorOak Nottingham Coworking on Saturday 22 April 2017.
