Monday 22 - Sunday 28 May is Nottinghamshire Hospice Big Purple Party Week, find out how to get involved!
Nottinghamshire Hospice are running a Big Purple Party week from Monday 22 - Sunday 28 of May. It’s all about raising awareness (and cash money) for our local hospice. We got in early and spent an afternoon dressed in purple and gorging ourselves on purple related food and drink, while listening to a fine selection of purple themed music on the LL Stereo. The event itself was all about having fun, but the work the hospice does is really important and many people won’t know about the work they do in Nottinghamshire.
Founded in 1980, Nottinghamshire Hospice is a community-based palliative care centre which provides high quality care services to adults who have terminal and life-limiting illnesses, and to their families and carers.
Their aim is to add life to days for people that have been told that their illness cannot be cured. They help people who are thought to be in the last year of their life to live as actively and well as possible with care that puts the highest value on dignity, choice and respect.
The help and care the service provides to patients, and their loved ones, is holistic. They offer compassionate nursing care to help meet physical needs, social support to help tackle loneliness or isolation with counselling, and chaplaincy to support spiritual needs. This is either at their Day Therapy Centre on Woodborough Road, or in people’s homes.
Any money raised helps them provide these vital care services. Nottinghamshire Hospice needs to raise a staggering £2.7 million every year – that’s over £7,000 a day – to help make sure every patient and family who needs hospice care has somewhere and someone to turn to.
Having a Purple Party is a fun way to raise some much needed funds and awareness about the hospice. You can help them in other ways too, through volunteering at one of their supermarket takeovers or just generally supporting some of the many great events they run throughout the year, from a summer fair to a pet event.
