Hannah Parker spoke to Philip Brewin from Stroppy Dogs ahead of their charity gig on Friday 23rd June to raise money for the Childrens Hospital QMC.
We all love live music, and especially when you’re given two bands in one gig, especially in the summer. But, add the charity element and you just can’t lose.
Stroppy Dogs and DONuT Panic have teamed up to put together a gig at the Radcliffe British Legion, and the best part - aside the awesome live music from two great bands – is that all the proceeds go to Nottingham Children’s Hospital, QMC.
Stroppy Dogs is a 4-piece male band based in Nottingham. They play covers of bands and artists such as The Killers, Razorlight and David Bowie with guitars, drums, vocals and even a blues harp.
Phil Brewin is the main bass guitarist in the band, whilst also offering his vocals. “We've played on Open Mic nights at the BLC but this is our first proper gig there which we've organised ourselves,” he says. “We wanted to put on a good night and give the proceeds to a worthwhile charity, so we asked our friends Donut Panic to support us.”
This is the band’s first charity gig, but the members have a personal connection with it. Phil explains that they chose Nottingham Children’s Hospital, QMC because “I worked there for 11 years - as a psychologist supporting children and families affected by physical illness - particularly Cystic Fibrosis and Burns.
“Lead guitarist, Richard has also worked at QMC in the East Midlands Local Clinical Research Network, supporting medical research including children's cancer. All the money raised will go towards equipment and facilities for children living with serious and chronic illnesses.”
They’ve been working hard to promote the gig, as the more tickets they sell, the more money they raise, so everybody wins. “We've been sticking up posters and getting local shops to sell tickets,” Phil says. “We’ve also been letting friends know and asking them to spread the word. We hope having this interview will really help, and we are also trying to get GEM Radio to auction a couple of tickets on the day.”
The gig will take place on 23rd June and tickets are only £5 advance, or £6 on the door. The music is set to start at 8:45pm, which is great news for all the sun Gods and Goddess’s, as you won’t miss out on any tanning time.
With the British summer finally in swing, it’s set to be a great night. Two fun, talented Nottingham based bands getting together to raise money for a brilliant cause. “We are really, really excited,” Phil says. “We hope we will put on a great night for everyone who comes.”
The gig is on 23rd June at Radcliffe British Legion and doors open at 7:30pm. Tickets are £5 advance or £6 on the door.
