No time to chill, there's things to do...
Original Soundtracks
The crew at Bodega really know how to give the people of Nottingham a proper good time; the combo of your favorite movie tunes and a boogie in one of the best venues in the city sounds like the best kinda Monday night you’re gonna get. With the chance to make the night your own, you can vote for what film you want playing during the night, not to mention the “happy hour” drink prices and a cheeky free entry. Looks like a good start to the week after all.
Monday 26 June, 9pm, free entry, The Bodega, event link
XXI Degree Show Selection
With so much creative talent scattered around each corner of Nottingham at the XXI Degree Show, you might not have got the chance to see this year’s NTU photography students at their best. Worry not, cos if you get yourself over to the NAE sharpish you’ll see the bags of photographic genius in the specially selected pieces of the show. Although the photography on display is proper diverse and sure to open the eyes of anyone who takes a look, everything merges together collectively in a pretty powerful way. Expect the show to inspire your socks off as you immerse yourself in the most challenging and insightful talent in the city.
Ends Monday 3 July, New Art Exchange, event link
Wildflower Walk at Rushcliffe Country Park
As much as we all love the hustle and bustle of Notts city centre, we definitely need a breath of fresh(er) air every now and again. So, while the heavens aren’t constantly drowning us with downpours just yet, a wildflower walk around one of Nottinghamshire’s country parks sounds like a bloomin’ delight. Sarah Pierce of Open Air Laboratory has thrown together a dawdle around Rushcliffe Country Park for you and your pals, taking you along the meadows to remind you that this top county isn’t just about sirens and exhaust fumes.
Wednesday 28 June, 10.20am, meet outside National Express office at Broadmarsh Bus Station, event link
The Man Who Fell to Earth
Bowie obviously wasn’t always living his life on Mars as he plays the role of an alien who visits earth to search for help for his own planet in the cult-followed The Man Who Fell to Earth. Head down to the Nottingham Contemporary this Wednesday for a mid-week screening of this science-fiction great in its freakishly fresh, re-mastered glory that throws us a Bowie performance whilst he was in his finest years. It’s almost been eighteen months since his tragic passing, so go and take a gander at the big screen in celebration of this hero’s wicked talent. And, to be honest, who doesn’t want a seventies sci-fi throw back on a Wednesday evening?

Raising The Roof
This week, expect to see Notts' finest creative heads up at The Maze. Writer’s Bloc and I’m Not From London have got together to whack on a cracking lineup, all to raise funds for local charity Framework. Helping the homeless community in Nottingham, Framework aim to do right by some of the most vulnerable people in our city, so dob ‘em a few quid and treat yer tabs while you’re at it. We’ve got everything from the beautiful vocals of Yazmin Lacey, to the blues and folk of 94 Gunships, and the upbeat, storytelling poetry of Rhythmical Mike. If all that weren’t enough, there’s Pete (1st Blood), Ty Healy, DJ Dan Rattomatic, Revege of Calculon, Stacey McMullen, Motormouf, Kane Ashmore, Chai Larden, Paul Carbuncle, and our Bridie Squires. Told you it was a big ‘un.

We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
