Dispossession Screening and Q&A
The director of Sleaford Mods: Invisible Britain, Paul Sng, is bringing another feature-length documentary to the silver screen, set to challenge and explore the current housing crisis in Britain. While some are able to fritter away surplus cash on conservatories and loft conversions, others are literally having their homes demolished as the government works with the private sector to tear down council estates and build high-end property that the majority can’t afford. Narrated by Maxine Peake, who played the brilliant Veronica Ball in Shameless, the film explores the devastating failures that have led to the current housing shortage. Make sure you arrive bang on 6.30pm and stay for the Q&A session with Paul Sng, Lisa McKenzie, author of Getting By, and St Ann’s resident and Labour candidate for Newark, Chantal Lee.

Buddhist Centre Open Day
Town on a Saturday day time can be a bleddy nightmare; everyone’s got somewhere to be and they don’t care how many folk they take out with their shopping bags while they’re trying to get there. Have yourself a zenned-out time of it this Saturday, and pay the Buddhist Centre a visit. The Lace Market venue is opening its doors as part of the nation-wide Great Get Together celebrations. In honour of the life of MP Jo Cox, free events are springing up across the country with the sole aim of bringing communities together. Tuck into some meditation taster sessions from 10am, and when you’ve worked up an appetite putting your thoughts in order, you can tuck into a vegan lunch, courtesy of the centre. In’t that nice, eh? It’s an event suitable for all the family. Goo on, give it a try.

Junktion7 presents…
Well isn’t this little bogger a blast from the past. Many of you will remember the Canning Circus favourite, Junktion 7, that first opened it’s doors in 2002, with its turquoise walls and original seventies Space Invaders arcade game. Sadly, it shut up shop in 2008 and is now being turned into student flats. Shock. This week, the spirit of the place is back in conjunction with SinSisters Music, as the pairing gear up to present a night of rock and roll in the name of humanitarian charity, CARE International. Head over to The Boat Club to catch the likes of New Generation Superstars, The Barnum Meserve and Rhythmical Mike and Lewis Brade from Unknown Era tear up the stage all in aid of a crackin’ charity. And take cash money to donate, too.

Blueprint
Budding musicians of Notts, prick thine ears cos this one’s for you. Blueprint are heading over to The Glee Club to deliver free workshops this weekend to help you lot understand the music industry and impart shining pearls of business advice into your head tops. The scheme is part of a UK-wide series of creative business events, with Blueprint specifically exploring how to successfully distribute and promote music. Sick. Get down for 1pm in time to listen to talks about how to build your fan base, secure press coverage, digitally distribute your tunes and protect your rights. Literally everything you need to know, basically. Well in. Plus it’ll be an excellent opportunity to network with like minded individuals. The event is free, but make sure you reserve a place online.

Digital Lido
We love a good birthday party here in Hoodtown, and this week, it’s the turn of Lakeside Arts. They’re turning the grand old age of twenty five, and to celebrate, they’re throwing a proper lengthy bash and you’re all invited. Kicking off this weekend, Djanogly Gallery will be reimagined as the old Highfields Park Lido, with digital artist Barret Hodgson giving you the chance to take an interactive dip through the history of the Lido. Intruiging. There’ll be up to eight shows a day, each running for around twenty five minutes, so you’ve got plenty of time to get on down. Bathing suits at the ready, kids. We’re going for a swim.
