Twin Kidd and Prime appear at a new live music night for your musical calendars on the last Friday of every month at Jamcafe...
Next Door Records are all about networking great talent locally and from further afield so you can expect a diverse set of acts to grace their stages as the event progresses. They hope to get as many out of town bands into Nottingham as possible and promote interaction and community development amongst the fine cultures of the English music scene.
Kicking off the show were Prime who are a post-punk indie band from Nottingham and Sheffield, but in the absence of their drummer we have been treated to a novel acoustic set. Their full set-up has a strong punk vibe with distorted guitar parts and a resonating high hat focused drum beat. We were surprised to see these guys take a bluesy approach to their tracks with just an acoustic guitar and lead vocalist to hold the fort, however the atmosphere on stage still held an edgy punk vibe with some jivey dance moves. We caught up with the guys after the show who told us they will be holding on to this idea of acoustic punk with a show at Chameleon Arts Café on 2 August, so if this mash up of genres is your thing then go have a listen.
Next up were Twin Kidd, a local electro-pop 3 piece crafting ambient vocals with textured beats, they are a favourite among the label so who better to close the opening night than a trusted good vibe. It’s no secret that this trio really love the music that they create and perform, there was a complete sense of passion and focus that spilled from each of them, feeding in to the crowd with slinky moves, piercing stares and effortless talent. They treated us to a stack of tracks from their Fold EP featuring heavy synths, soft drum beats and intense lingering vocals and a delightful cover of Running Up That Hill which despite admitting to mucking it up in rehearsal, we thought it was pretty special.
We think this could be a regular showcase of emerging talent that you should not miss, notably 25 November at Rough Trade with touring band called Adam Carpet, an Italian 5 piece electro post-rock outfit who will be performing with local boys Whisky Stain and up and coming DJ Koi Calisto.
Next Door Records Presents: Twin Kidd and Prime was at the JamCafe on 28 July 2017.
