Mud Press, the rebellious independent publishing house changing the literary scene of Nottingham by restoring poetry to its former glory, have some exciting news. It involves Christmas and, of course, poetry.

Georgina Wilding, the poet and powerhouse behind the publishers, is all for creativity and collaboration. Heavily-influenced by Sharon Olds and Selima Hill, Wilding is determined to transform stereotypical opinions about poetry into a fiery passion we can all share in for emotion-fuelled words.

As part of Mud Press’ mission to build a community of talented poets, they’re calling on yow lot to send them your Christmas themed poems in time for their Christmas Zine. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s barely October, we know. But there’s heaps of organisation that needs to be done to get the zine out and about in time for the festive period, so you can keep yer moaning to a minimum and put pen to bleddy paper, alright?

Our Georgina is looking for souls bared on paper, and she loves nowt better than spotting a diamond in the rough, so don’t be shy, show her what you’ve got.

So get to thinkin about your favourite – or least favourite – parts of the Christmas period, and have a crack at writing ‘em down in metered verse.

Off you pop.

Entries must be submitted before midnight on Sunday 8 October. There’s a nominal fee of £3 for submitting up to five pieces of work. For further details on how to enter, head over to the Mud Press website.
