Mums are bleddy brilliant, aren’t they? Whether yours birthed you, raised you, came into your life half way through, if you call her mum, or grandma, or aunty, or her first name, if she makes the best roast potatoes, or struggles to boil an egg, she’s always on the other end of the phone when you need her. Treat your mum, or the closest person to it, to a cracker this Mother’s Day. Here’s some brain food to get the ideas ticking...

Puppy Cuddles
Okay. Strictly speaking this one might be more for you than your ma, but hey, she doesn’t need to know that. Bundle her into the car and whizz her up to Radcliffe RSPCA to spend an hour having a cuddle with some of the puppies there. Fingers crossed she adopts one and stops pestering you about grand kids. We shudder at the thought.
Sunday 11 March, 10am, free, RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Centre

Mother's Day Bingo
Ooowee. If you got your gambling habit from the woman who birthed and/or raised you, show her you know her by carting her off to the big Gala Bingo in St Ann’s for her chance to win big. There’ll be all the usual games, plus the chance to win an extra £100 and a pamper hamper. May the odds be in your favour, youth.

Afternoon Tea
For at least eighteen years of your life, your mother has kept your belly full of food and supplied you with endless cups of hot, sweet tea when it’s all got a bit too much. It’s high time you returned the favour, don’t you think? Pop down to Dolcino for a spot of afternoon tea, and make yer ma feel right posh with a tiny, crustless cucumber sarnie. Easy peasy.
Sunday 11 March, 12pm, £14.95 - £19.95, Dolcino

If yer ma is a raging slasher movie fan, you’ll knock your siblings way out the park with this treat. The folk who run Fake Up, Nottingham’s hottest special effects make up whizz kids, are hosting a workshop over at Malt Cross that’ll see you learn how to create your very own, movie-worthy make up. Blood and guts as standard.

Adult Candle Making
Buying your mother a scented candle for Christmas, birthdays and Mother’s Day just isn’t gonna cut it anymore. That woman sacrificed her pelvic floor for you, the least you can do is think a little out of the box. Tek her over to Ravenshead to make her very own scented candle, courtesy of Tilly’s Pots. She’ll have three of the boggers to take home, plus, she’ll have enjoyed a couple of golden hours with you.
Sunday 11 March, 3pm, £20, Tilly Pots Ravenshead

Mum’s Go Free
While the extent of most mother’s gaming knowledge is limited to tagging you in endless Farmville requests, there are some golden madre’s out there who’re well-versed in the art of 8-bit gaming. The National Videogame Arcade are opening their doors to mums of every kind to come in and have a bash on all the gaming goods on offer. All their regular concessions apply, too, so you could be quids in with this one.

If a spot of class is what your momma deserves, book her in for a cream tea and craft session down at that there Debbie Bryan. While gorging on cream cakes, sandwiches and tea of every possible variety, she can have a crack at making her very own hand-gilded and scribed vintage wall plate. Winner.
