Our condiment connoisseur is bringing you the sauce...
Ayup spud-dunkers,
As we’ve established these first few months together on the side, not all sauce is created equal. However, don’t you think it’s a step too far when Her Madge the Queen sticks ‘er neb in to “appoint” quality ketchup to us plebs?
Brands such as Tiptree and Heinz can rightfully boast to have supplied her Royal Heinz-ness with the good stuff. Their bottles bear the “Royal Warrant” and Liz ain’t just handing those out. Oh no, you have to have supplied her “with goods or services for at least five years out of seven” before you can even apply for a warrant.
Tiptree is a village and preserves brand in Essex, known for jams, chutneys and sauces. Their ketchup is light, sweet and tangy, and can be found in Sainsbos around Notts. The initial warmth of Mediterranean plum tomatoes is offset by lemon juice, for a delicately zesty flavour, and each jar is individually finished before packing; in my case, by Linda. Or so the bottle states. Cheers, Linda. The Queen’s counting on you.
Whether you like your ketchup royally endorsed, or just want to royally slather those hash browns, you’ve got Tommy K’s seal of approval.
Yours, with condiments,
Tommy K
