Broadway Cinema has launched its Beyond The Reel fundraising campaign which gives customers the opportunity to support the organisation’s mission to inspire creativity and a lifelong love of film, whilst also highlighting the work Broadway does in the wider community to increase access to cinema.

Director of Marketing and Communications Stewart Terry said, “We recently ran a survey with our customers and over 50% were not aware of our status as a registered charity. After further discussions with our members, we decided that a fundraising campaign would be the best way to showcase our impact in the local community as well as giving people the chance to support what we do.”

Broadway ploughs any surplus profit made back into supporting community and educational work and the building in which Broadway is situated has a long altruistic history dating back to the late 19th century, when it was the home of the founder of the Salvation Army, William Booth. This altruistic spirit is alive and well today with Broadway facing the challenges of accessing cinema head on with programmes such as its regular dementia friendly screenings.

Stewart Terry added, “Our dementia friendly screenings have grown in popularity since they began in 2017, with over 400 attendees in the past 18 months, but there are still a number of care homes and day centres that are unable to attend due to costs and transport issues. Our campaign looks to address this problem by asking for customer donations to help with transport costs and other issues that can hinder attendance.”

As part of this campaign, Broadway has also begun discussions with local community charity Hope Nottingham about how it can best support their food banks to regularly distribute cinema tickets to families and individuals using their services.

CEO Steve Mapp said, “There are a number of food banks across Nottingham that Hope facilitates and we want to make sure that service users and their families have an opportunity to enjoy films at Broadway. We hope the success of our Beyond The Reel campaign will ensure that we can continue to support their work with a regular donation of tickets.”

Broadway patrons will be able to support the campaign in a number of different ways including a ticket top-up option online, by texting REEL to 70085 to donate £5, by donating in person at the box office or by donating via a soon to be installed contactless payment point in the foyer. As an added bonus, for a limited time, the Arts Council England, through their Catalyst Evolve programme, will match all donations to Broadway £1 for £1.
