Much Ado Theatre brought Shakespeare's comedy to the Canal House's beer garden...

On 22 July, Much Ado About Nothing brought Shakespeare's classic story with a twist to Notthingham’s Canal House. Picture the scene: the pub is bustling, conversation and the sound of clinking glasses fills the - the stage is set. On the Canal House's outdoor decking, benches are arranged, leaving a large circle of space in the middle - the show is to be performed in the round, close and intimate.

The evening kick started with a lively introduction, to which received a warm welcome from the audience.

As described, the play was, “silly, sarcastic and seductive”, full of comical moments, mistaken identity, love/hate relationships and Shakespearean pranks (if you consider faking your own death a prank).

Much Ado Theatre had the audience in stitches; funny voices, outrageous characters and scheming evil villains. Not forgetting the classic Shakespearian whirlwind romances, bringing the most unlikely together and tearing the most compatible apart. It seemed for the Much Ado Theatre group, audience interaction was no stranger, they were ducking and weaving between the benches, swigging peoples pints, and even patting an unfortunate bald man on the head - much to the audience's approval.

Overall, Much Ado About Nothing was a thoroughly enjoyable performance and a wonderful spin on Shakespeare's classic.
