The second year of Write Pride will take place in Nottingham from Monday 22 – Friday 26 July 2019.
The festival will be held across 5 Nottingham venues, including the Nottingham Playhouse and the newly relaunched Non-Such Studios, and will include 5 writing forms – Prose, Film, Music, Poetry and Theatre – with each day dedicated to each of these writing forms.
The 5 day long festival will include writing masterclasses, readings, film screenings, live music, and performance poetry and theatre evenings. Those lined up for entertainment include Prose writer and queer literature icon Paul Burston, local music artist Tash Bird, and a touring drag cabaret show from Newcastle.
The Write Pride Festival started in 2018 and was the first of its kind in the UK. It was created by Nottingham resident Hayley Green, who wanted to create a safe space to explore and celebrate the writing of the LGBTQIA community. After a successful first year Hayley founded Writing Proud, an LGBTQIA writing network.
Hayley says: “Write Pride was born out of a desire to celebrate a wider community than what I was seeing and experiencing at Pride events across the UK.
“I wanted to create a community that would continue to grow and provide LGBTQIA writers safe spaces to explore topics they may not get to explore with traditional writing activities.
“Above all though, I wanted to improve the visibility of LGBTQIA creatives and celebrate the talent that they hold.”
Tickets for each of the events are £5, and are available on the Write Proud website. All proceeds from the festival will go towards future LGBTQIA writing activities.
