December Mix Of The Month: Seasonal Hibernation from Pushkins Prefers

In this mix series we invite local DJs to get creative with each issue’s theme. To round off ‘19 Greg, of local music webzine Pushkins Prefers, weaves together a special selection designed for the period of seasonal weirdness that lies between Christmas and New Year…

Does anyone else feel like they’re only just coming up for air now that Christmas is over? December is a funny ol’ month and whether you’re a festive fool or can’t stand the holidays, by the end of each year it’s common to need a little mind, body and spirit TLC.

In comes Greg, the brains and coding power behind the pixelated Pushkins Prefers; an online zine packed with musical musings, featuring some cracking mixes from its mates DJ Birkens Stock and DJ Ball Haulage to boot. IRL you can often find Greg fingering through wax in the early hours at his enviable home setup, so we thought it was time to shine a light on his wide-ranging sonic knowledge base for December’s mix.

The result is a laid-back selection that’s best enjoyed solo, suitably soothing for any red wine hangovers or mince pie induced gurgly guts. Lie back in a haze of gluttony and let the sounds lull you into a dreamlike state, acting as a refreshing antidote to Noddy Holder’s screams and distorted chart toppers, rebooting the mind ready for the New Year’s celebrations.

A note from Greg:

Look after yourself, retreat away from the festivities and float off into your own inner space. Zone in to ethereal moments, cosmic drones, jazzy bits, puddle music and amorous grooves, featuring a few personal demos too.

Greg will be joined by Sultani for the new Pushkins Prefers residency on City Beat Radio, every fourth Sunday of the month, 2-4pm. The first show will be Sunday 29 December 2019.
