Described as a “one-of-a-kind celebration of the videos that time forgot”, The Found Footage Film Festival is coming to Broadway on Monday 9 March and will showcase the weird and wonderful world of lost VHS tapes.
Comedians Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett are taking the festival on a tour of the country to make sure us fine English folk get the chance to experience a tonne of hidden gems, including recently unearthed footage from the 1987 Miss Junior America Wisconsin pageant, a gripping local news story about Pudgie Wudgie the Wonder Cat and a definitely-not-cringeworthy exercise video entitled “Skiercise!”.
We had a quick chat with co-host Nick to find out what else the festival has in store…
In your own words, how would you summarise the festival?
The Found Footage Festival is a live guided tour through the VHS collection of me and my childhood friend Joe. These are videos mostly found at thrift stores around North America. They’re not films but more esoteric tapes like exercise videos, instructional videos and home movies. It's all stuff that was never really meant to be shown in public, which is why it's so fun to watch them in public. Joe and I host the show in person and offer our commentary, observations and updates on the people in the videos.

Who should come and see the show?
It's a comedy show with the kind of footage that will no doubt be uncomfortably familiar to anyone alive in the 80s and 90s. But ultimately this is footage you can't see anywhere else. In a day and age where you can pull up almost anything on your phone, that's pretty special.
Nottingham is one of only six cities involved in the tour - what made you guys want to bring the show to the city?
We love Nottingham. The first time we played here we met some folks who took us to Boilermaker and handed over a bunch of amazing footage, including a 1983 beauty pageant for men from the Southwest of England. It's incredible - everyone has moustaches and none of them look like they want to be there. We'll be playing that footage and another tape given to us in Nottingham called "Miss ATV 1978". Star Wars fever was in full effect so there's a crude droid who assists all the ladies in their wardrobe.
And why is Broadway the venue you wanted for the tour?
Broadway is perfect for us because it's a legit cinema that also has the capability to show off our crude VHS footage on the big screen. They also serve beer, which helps.
