Fans of soul and live music won’t be disappointed with Acoustickle’s offering this month. The city’s longest running night of its kind is welcoming established jazz songstress, Haiki Loki, back to Nottingham for her first show in seven years, with a supporting line-up of local rising stars spanning acoustic performances, group acts and DJ sets.
Leading the show is singer / songwriter Haiki who was born in Ethiopa, but working from her Nottingham base in the early 00s made her stamp on the city before moving to concentrate on London projects. From performances at Glastonbury to London’s Jazz Cafe, this melodic queen is no stranger to the scene and it’s a pleasure to see her grace the stage of Nottingham’s newest purpose-built Jazz bar for her return to the area.
Expect smooth, intelligent vocals, melodies that make you smile, and that warm fuzzy feeling that only Acoustickle can stir up…
From solo singer to a seven-piece outfit, jazz / funk band Benjamin Luhis brings something raw to the table. Led by Benjamin on bass, he’s already making a name for himself through gigs at venues such as The Chameleon and New Art Exchange but this Wednesday will mark the outfit’s Peggy’s debut.
Anyone who’s had the pleasure of catching Benjamin and crew at one of his intimate sets will know the rip-roaring energy they can provide. You’ll be jumping out of yer seats for this one.
Joining these will be one of Acoustickle’s hot tips, Nicolette Shaé. This Derby-based songstress will introduce her blend of RnB, afro, soul and hip hop to the night’s finely tuned ears, alongside Tilly Greentree, a name that’s more known locally. Though still earning their stripes, with Acoustickle’s recommendation you can be sure that we’ll be seeing and hearing more of them both in future.
Alongside four stunning live performances, Kemet FM’s Janelle Chiara will be spinning her selection of the finest RnB and soul, adding to the growing list of shows that are seeing her play for huge names such as Rinse FM and other UK performances.
Acoustickle have steadily built up a reputation for putting a magical twist on its shows, decorating each venue with an Eastern Jazz club aesthetic - though at Peggy’s Skylight, it’s a match made in heaven. Wednesday might be ‘hump day’ for many but with promises of that special ‘coustickle touch, henna hand painting, pop up stalls and Peggy’s stunning food and drinks menu, we think it’s the perfect mid-week remedy.
Whether you’re more familiar with Haiki or some of the emerging names on this lineup, anyone who’s into live music with a soulful touch will receive a heartwarming education from Parisa and co this Wednesday.
