For seventeen years and 127 printed issues, LeftLion magazine has shone a light on Nottingham’s culture and entertainment scene. Now we’re asking our readers for a bit of help to get back on our feet...

BECOME A LEFTLION PATREON

LeftLion began as a website between three friends in a flat in Sherwood. In 2004 we published our first printed issue with Shane Meadows as the cover star. Since then we’ve published work and words from Alan Sillitoe, Sir Paul Smith, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Sleaford Mods, Vicky McClure and many more.

LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the big companies and issues to the small promoters and community organisations.

We believe we are part of what makes Nottingham unique – not many cities in the world have a free press like us. Up until March this year we published ten thousand magazines every month, distributing them for free to over 450 venues in and around Nottingham.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit many businesses hard, including us. We’re a small team of dedicated writers, designers and creatives who love Nottingham, the people in it and our job of promoting all the talented folk in this city. LeftLion has always done its best to navigate through troubled waters but for the first time in our history, we had to cease printing during lockdown due to the closure of venues and decreased advertising, and make use of the Government’s furlough scheme for our staff.

As we look to return to print with our 128th issue we are asking our readers and the people who love what we do to support us. We are excited to announce the launch of the LeftLion Patreon page. Patreon is a membership platform where we will offer new exclusive content for our subscribers. The money raised will be used to keep our printed magazine alive and running, paying our in-house staff for their hard work and put towards the ongoing promotion of all the creativity that exists within Nottingham, at a time the industry needs it the most.

We have a favour to ask

LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
