Movie fans will soon get to watch the latest releases in Nottingham's iconic cinema...
Nottingham's Broadway Cinema is set to reopen on Friday 25 September, six months after it was forced to close.
As a result of the Coronavirus outbreak, Broadway has been unable to welcome guests since Tuesday 17 March, but with new social distancing measures in place the cinema will begin to operate on reduced opening times of Wednesday to Sunday.
Film fans will get the chance to see all the latest movies, as well as some features they may have been unable to watch during lockdown.
Caroline Hennigan, Director of Programming, said: “Our opening programme includes new titles such as the critically-acclaimed Les Misérables and the British film Rocks. We’re also looking forward to screening the 4K restoration of Flash Gordon and bringing back the black and white version of Parasite.”
Although the enforced closure has caused problems for Broadway, the great people of Nottingham were more than willing to show their support, with many donating the price of a cinema ticket, becoming members, purchasing seat dedication plaques, and streaming new releases via the cinema's website.
CEO Steve Mapp has offered his thanks to those who have helped during this difficult time, saying, “This period of closure has been financially tough for independent cinemas like Broadway and we are extremely appreciative of the support that’s been coming in over the past six months from our loyal customers.”
Before lockdown, Broadway was experiencing impressive levels of success, boosted by popular releases including 1917 and The Peanut Butter Falcon.
With new safety restrictions in place, Mapp hopes that the institution can reach similar heights again in the near future.
“We want our customers to be comfortable and safe when walking into Broadway and we’ve taken a lot of precautions across the venue to make this the case," he said. "This includes introducing allocated seating, reducing the capacity in our screens, one-way systems across the venue, installing antibacterial wash stations, adjusting our air conditioning setup and mask wearing in the venue.
“Having our iconic venue sat empty for so long has been tough, but now we can’t wait to welcome audiences back and show them why experiencing film on the big screen cannot be beaten.”
