Metronome is set to host The Television Workshop’s much-anticipated production of Macbeth next week, bringing an end to Nic Harvey’s massively successful stint as director of the iconic Nottingham institution.

Harvey stepped into the role back in 2015, after five years of teaching and directing. Since then he has overseen the likes of Primadonna, The Heresy Of Love and Instinct, and will finish his run with one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays.

Playing from Wednesday 11 August and, in true Macbeth-ian fashion, coming to a close on Friday 13, the Workshop will tell this age-old story as it’s never been told before - bringing the powerful tale of greed and betrayal into a modern mafia setting.

Following the titular Macbeth as he sets his sights on becoming the king of the underground criminal operation he serves, this one-of-a-kind play will explore whether the cunning and ambition of himself and his wife, Lady Macbeth, will be enough for the pair to hold on to power as blood is shed and friendships are shattered. Intense stuff.

"I'm excited for the future but will miss the incredible people I've worked with so much"

Featuring some of the most exciting up-and-coming actors in the country, including Harvey Scrimshaw (The Witch), Joelle Rae (Get Even) and Mica Ricketts (Vera), this production provides a fittingly fascinating swansong for Harvey - whose advice and guidance has helped performers bag roles in the likes of Game Of Thrones, The Wheel of Time and The Virtues

Ahead of his farewell gig, Harvey said: “It's been my life since the age of seven and I couldn't be more proud to have had the chance to lead this wonderful family for the last six years.

“I'm excited for the future but will miss the incredible people I've worked with so much. A huge thank you to everyone that has supported me/us and I know that more greatness is to come from our beloved Workshop.”

First created in 1983, The Television Workshop offers development opportunities for those looking to break into the film and television industry.

It has been the home of big stars including Samantha Morton, Joe Dempsie and Jack O’Connell, as well as legendary local director Shane Meadows.

With Macbeth just the latest in a run of high quality productions spanning nearly four decades, expect to see plenty more exciting talents coming through the ranks in the coming years.

Without a doubt, something wicked this way comes. But wicked as in cool, not in the evil way… You get it.

Tickets for Macbeth are now available on the Metronome website.
