On Tuesday 16 December, the greatest tunes from one of the planet's most famous rockstars filled the ears of music fans in our fair city...
On a foggy December evening the Meat Loaf inspired musical rock show bursts onto the Motorpoint stage with a lick of flame, leather and guitar fury like a bat out of hell.
Anything for Love showcases the hits from the late, great Jim Steinman - the man behind many of Meat Loaf’s greatest hits, but also a handful of featured tunes from the likes of Bonnie Tyler and Celine Dion. These songs of the classic Motorcycle Rock genre are assembled together and performed by Steve Steinman, in great voice and vigour, as well as featured artist Lorraine Crosby, with both backed up by the members of Vampires Rock and the Bad for Good rock orchestra.
Steinman appeared on ITV’s Stars in Their Eyes almost thirty years ago and has enjoyed a brilliant Meat Loaf tribute career since then. His voice cannot be faulted, perfectly delivering hit after hit of the often high-tempo, vocally demanding lyrics. Yet it is not as simple as a man performing as a tribute act, it is far greater than that. It’s a brilliant artist sharing his love of this music genre with fellow fans.
Co-star Lorrain Crosby also stuns the crowd performing It’s All Coming Back to Me Now and Total Eclipse of the Heart solo, and with duet hits such as Dead Ringer for Love and I Would do Anything for Love, among more.
Not only is the music incredibly well-presented, but the pure enthusiasm proves infectious with the arena ringing out with joy
The visceral tapestry is woven seamlessly with impeccable performances from every cast member - from strings to percussion, brass to vocals. Not only is the music incredibly well-presented, but the pure enthusiasm proves infectious with the arena ringing out with joy - which is, of course, encouraged by Steve, providing a conduit for the electric atmosphere.
The production itself is also brilliant, adding to the acoustics with well synced lighting and effects, including impressive flame cannons all coming together to boost the performance further. Steve's comedic commentary and story delivery also help the show to flow brilliantly.
This is the last tour date of 2021 and is brought to an end with a festive Meat Loaf-esque version of Slade’s Merry Christmas Everyone, which is, of course, met by a rapturous singalong by the audience.
Though it’s the end for this year, though, the show will soon be hitting the highway like a battering ram again in 2022 with dates from March until October already confirmed, including at the East Midlands' favourite seaside resort, Skegness, on 30 April.
