The Dark Knight, The Godfather and The Guy From the 1976 British Open are all coming to the big screen this month...
The Batman
That’s right - another Batman movie. But will this be a good one? Everything seems to suggest so. One of the most in-demand actors in the world playing Bruce Wayne? Check. An eclectic mix of villains for the Dark Knight to take on? Check. The Caped Crusader unironically calling himself vengeance? Check. The hype for Matt Reeves’ The Batman has been off the charts since the first trailer dropped, and it promises to be a must-watch for any comic-book fans.
Showing at Arc Beeston, Cineworld, Savoy and Showcase from Thursday 3 March.
The Godfather: Part II
Some argue that the sequel to Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece, The Godfather, is even better than the original - and it’s easy to see why. With Al Pacino following up a jaw-dropping performance in the 1972 classic with an even more stunning performance this time out, and Robert De Niro joining the team to take things to another level, this is big screen storytelling at its absolute finest. Check it out as it returns to cinemas this month.
Showing at Broadway from Friday 4 March, and at Showcase from Sunday 6 March.
Red Rocket
Following washed-up porn star Mikey Saber (Simon Rex) as he makes a return to his hometown, this R-rated comedy-drama isn’t necessarily a family-friendly film - but for the adults among us, it is definitely worth a watch. Featuring a quality performance from Rex and another fine showing from director Sean Baker, Red Rocket picked up a Palme d’Or nomination at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, and is one of the most highly-rated releases of the last year.
Showing at Broadway from Friday 11 March.
Phantom of the Open
We all love a slightly soppy true story, right? Especially when it’s written by Simon Farnaby, the brains behind possibly the sweetest film of all time - Paddington 2. Telling the tale of Maurice Flitcroft, a crane operator who finds himself at the 1976 British Open qualifying and becomes a British folk hero in the process, Phantom of the Open is packed with talented stars including Mark Rylance and Rhys Ifans, and promises to warm the cockles as we wait for summer to arrive.
Showing at Arc Beeston, Broadway and Savoy from Friday 18 March.
The Worst Person in the World
The Worst Person in the World might just be the best film of the year. It’s bagged two Oscar nominations, including Best Original Screenplay, and many believe it should have been up there in the Best Picture category. Star Renate Reinsve has received plaudits for her relatable, charming performance as slightly lost thirty-year-old Julie, and director Joachim Trier continues his fine run after the success of 2017’s Thelma. We’re not saying you’ll be the worst person in the world if you don’t check this out, but you’ll definitely be up there…
Showing at Broadway from Friday 25 March.
