Continuing on its quest to become a leader in the world of esports, Nottingham has bagged some pretty big events this summer...

A partnership between the Global Esports Federation (GEF) and the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies, part of Nottingham Trent University, will place our city at the heart of qualifying for the Commonwealth Esport Championships.

The inaugural Championships will kick off in Nottingham this summer, with matches held here from August Monday 1 to Friday 5 August and the finals held in Birmingham on the Saturday 6 and Sunday 7.

Confetti, alongside accommodation provider UPP, will offer a home for athletes, as well as a community space. CEO of GEF, Paul J. Foster, has described the plan as being “a place for our #worldconnected community to thrive, be together, make friends for life, have fun.”

With a successful entry into the esports market in 2020, Confetti have also become the first educational establishment in the country to offer esport production qualifications - courses focusing on esports, live events production, broadcasting and content creation are all on offer at the city-based campus.

Craig Chettle MBE, founder and Chief Exec of Confetti, said: “Our community of students will benefit hugely from this collaboration, and we can’t wait to welcome the participating teams from across the Commonwealth to Nottingham.”

This exciting news comes with the institute’s opening of ‘Confetti X’ later this year, a new £5million dedicated esports facility. This summer is only the beginning of a hopeful long-term partnership between the two organisations as esports continue to expand and offer new opportunities for the better.
