We went down to check out The Dandy Gent's new Hockley spot...
Boasting the lofty accolade of a five-star Google rating, which puts them firmly among the cream of the Nottingham barber shop crop, The Dandy Gent really cuts the… well… hair. They’re arguably the nattiest coiffeur too, with a shop decked out in nostalgic Americana and curiosity. Quite fittingly, they’ve now moved the whole shebang to Hockley.
“We absolutely love it here and we’re all really happy and thrilled that so many of our customers have followed us over,” says Nottingham shop owner Sarah. “We had, of course, hoped they would, but you never quite know – change can be unsettling and a hassle for clients. Every one of them has been complimentary of the new place and most find it actually easier to get to, which is a real bonus.”
The new two-floor shop on Heathcoat Street in Hockley has been a language school, travel agents and picture framers in former lives, but The Dandy Gent have put their own stamp on the building.
“We’ve given the new shop the full Dandy treatment, replicating the look and atmosphere that was so popular over on Station Street,” Sarah says. “Since being here we’ve already had a lot more attention and our bookings and reviews are increasing rapidly.”
The new shop has four stations on the ground floor – including an accessible station for wheelchair users. Downstairs is still in development, but should have three more chairs and more retail space available in the coming months.
Oh yeah - they sell their own-brand range of hair products, t-shirts, and even a moustache wax too. It’s not called The Dandy Gent for nowt.
