A pair of filmmakers have raised a quarter of a million to make an independent feature film which will be shown theatrically in Lenton.

Titled The Fence, the film is a feature-length adaptation of director William Stone’s short of the same name, and was funded independently by him and co-producer Adam Pickford from Nottingham.

The film has been picked up by Showcase and is receiving a series of one-off screenings across the country to gauge audience interest ahead of a potential wider release window.

Adam Pickford, who is also the film’s cinematographer, said: “Showcase is taking a financial risk by booking our tiny indie film, which is really rare. A positive turnout will make sure it's possible for small indie films to get the same opportunities in the future.”

What we’ve achieved with our micro-budget is hard to rival

Set in Bristol in 1983, the film explores the skinhead subculture that's also at the forefront of Notts classic This Is England, and follows a working-class 18-year-old, his older brother and their friends as they try to retrieve his stolen motorbike from local thieves.

Writer-director William Stone says the film combines ‘strong characters, comedy and a fast-paced narrative’ with a nostalgic Eighties soundtrack, and is urging locals to come and support the film.

“I think what we’ve achieved with our micro-budget is hard to rival,” he said. “Every penny is up on the screen where it should be, and I truly believe this is one of those few little indie films that has the potential to break the mould and surprise people.”

The Fence is showing at Showcase Cinema de Lux Nottingham on 6 October
