Telling a story of grief and family, Nine Night is coming to Nottingham Playhouse later this month...
A touching story about grief and dysfunctional families - Nine Night is coming to Nottingham Playhouse after it finishes its time in Leeds.
Running between October 19 and November 5, the talented company brings a fun but flawed family to the stage as they gather to grieve and celebrate the matriarch of the family, Gloria, through a traditional Jamaican Nine Night wake, in which family members of the deceased gather in their home for an extended period. Hence telling a story about many generations of family, all over music, food and rich traditions. Showcasing both joy and resentment, comedy and grief.
Directed by Amanda Huxtable and starring the likes of Shereener Browne, Daniel Poyser, Jessica Whitehurst and more, the play, which is written by Natasha Gordon has been described as ‘inherently funny and intensely moving.’ Making this an exciting one to grab a ticket for, particularly as this production follows a successful West End run in 2018 which won three awards in the Evening Standard Theatre Awards and Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards.
Commenting on the performance, Director Amanda Huxtable said that “Like everything worth doing, gathering our teams together wasn’t easy. It took patience, deep listening and belief that the right combination of people from our region and our country could tell this tale at this time for our audiences. This is it.” And with tickets starting at £8.50, now is a great time to book.
Tickets for the show are available through the Nottingham Playhouse
