UoN PunkSoc arranged an evening of local entertainment from Gender Envy, Molars and Los Fatso Libres at The Chameleon…
First to perform were Gender Envy, a band who are relatively new to the scene, with this only being their second ever gig following their appearance at Battle of the Bands earlier this year. With the set ranging from a punk song dedicated to their former drummer Andy to a cover of My Chemical Romance’s Teenagers, the band made an exciting impression on the crowd. The highlight of the set was Paper Planes, an emotional acoustic pop-punk number where Lucas Mannion took the lead vocals.
They were followed by Molars, a band who bring the vibes of American Midwest-emo right here to Nottingham. With a set featuring a few new songs that they told us they had just released on Spotify, as well as a cover of Sugar We’re Going Down by Fall Out Boy that went down very well with the crowd, you wouldn't have been able to tell that they’d almost had to pull out of the gig entirely due to illness had they not mentioned it. After watching that set, my main thought was that I was glad they recovered in time to perform.
The headliner that evening was Luchadore pop-punk band Los Fatso Libre. Having performed at the previous PunkSoc gig back in March, the crowd were already familiar with the high energy craziness that these guys bring to the stage. With their image completed with striking wrestling masks, this band are the whole package. Singing comedic tracks such as one about your mum eating all your food, as well as a cover of The Misfits, and two new songs that had never been performed live before, they ended the evening on a burst of relentless energy and punk spirit.
