We chat with Third Mill3nnium, a group of music business students who have launched their own events company here in Notts...
Could you tell us a bit more about yourselves?
We are all music business students, and we were tasked as one of our assignments to create and put on an event in the Nottingham area. We thought, instead of just putting on the one event, why not create a company that could put on multiple events in the future, as a way of showing our passion for new music within the area, with the added bonus of completing the work for our assignment as well.
How did your upcoming event come about?
Some of our course mates are also very talented musicians and performers who often have come from outside of the area but now live Nottingham and want to start making a name for themselves here. By doing so, they have created a network of talented local musicians, and we wanted to pull in on the collaboration aspects and the opportunities that this gave us when putting on the event.
Could you tell us a bit more about each of the artists on the line-up?
Unko Denny SK4 is an expressive artist and open artist who wants to create music that tempts and pulls you in. Di$mal is a young hip-hop artist from Nottingham who brings unique sounds and catchy hooks to the local music scene. He creates high energy filled music that can induce emotions and leave you losing your mind. Finally, Jayahadadream is an independent rapper, singer and producer whose music makes used of thought-provoking lyrical content.
How did you decide who would be on the line-up?
Making the decision on the line-up was not something that was easy. We knew that we wanted to mainly showcase Nottingham talent, but also wanted to include some of that talent from within our course. Even though we wanted music that was similar, we did not feel that all the artists had to be the same genre, just that they all had to have a common theme and passion behind their music, and that is what we got when looking at these artists.
What made you decide to focus on promoting local talent?
We feel it’s important to help new musicians and give them a platform to perform. As we are at a university based in Nottingham, we felt that if we were using new and upcoming musicians it is best to use local ones and give them a platform to perform on to help them gain new followers.
What do you think the future of the Nottingham music scene holds?
We think it is something that is super promising, as there is so much undiscovered rising talent just waiting for someone to listen to them, and by creating Third Mill3nnium we are helping to promote that. It is not just one genre that we are focusing on, it is anything and everything, and we think that it is so important to think outside of the box when it comes to the future of the music scene, as you never know where it will take you.
When and where will the event take place?
The event is on 21 March at Rough Trade. It presents a look into the future evolution of music in Nottingham, embracing the most expressive genres of music to create an exciting new event for the fearless.
How can we get tickets for it?
Tickets are now live on Dice, and for a limited time there is an early bird discount, so make sure you get in fast so that you don’t miss out.

We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
