Bassey caught up with Beeston-based, four-piece alt rock band, Lilac Grove…
Where did you get the name Lilac Grove and how long has the band been going?
Lilac Grove is a street local to where we live and we chose it as the band's name as a kind of focal point to our coming together. We all live in Beeston and went to the same school so we know each other, and we are really close. The band has been going for around five years now, and we're loving the opportunity to get out and play live.
Can you tell us a bit more about your new single?
Yeah, we are really excited about our new single which comes out on 4 April, and it's called Peace Of Mind. BBC Radio Introducing gave us a play recently and they gave it a great reaction - we can't wait to officially release it.
We know each other, and we are really close
What have you got lined up for the rest of the year?
We've got a support slot to the band Left Hand Lane at The Bodega on 8 April, and we are totally up for that. We are also headlining at Via Fossa on 12 May.
In fact, we are looking to gig locally a lot in 2023, and we want to prepare for festivals either this year or next. We recently played Beat the Streets at Red Room. The venue was packed, and we got a great reaction from the crowd - the vibe was amazing.
We are very much an alternate rock influenced band
Can you tell me a bit about your sound and influences?
We all pretty much like the same sounds including Arctic Monkeys and Oasis, but we have personally looked towards a heavier sound. We are very much an alternate rock influenced band and do best when playing it live.
And finally, where can folks hear your music?
We're out on most of the streaming platforms, including Spotify. Our previous EP was also released on CD, and we intend to do the same with the new single at some point.
Lilac Grove's next single will be available to listen to on 4 April
We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
