Festival Preview: Radfest 2023

Radfest is a musical festival taking place in Radcliffe on Trent on Saturday, June 17. From a main stage lineup packed with promising up-and-coming bands, to the Teen Tent and inflatables, there's something for the whole family. So, if you find yourself in Radcliffe on Trent this weekend, here are the bands you should check out...

Gender Envy

These University of Nottingham students can often be caught wearing black, white and purple, playing queer-tinted pop punk. Check out our recent interview with them, and then check them out at Radfest.

Slendz

Derby-based 17-year-old MC Slendz started making music in lockdown, influenced by Potter Payper, Eyez and Don Strapzy. A naturally talented and gifted writer, his style is inspired by the artists above with relatable lyrics and his ‘signature’ catchy wordplay.

DJ LC

Leo is an extraordinary young DJ who emerged from Nottingham. Growing up in Tollerton and Keyworth, Leo found solace and refuge in music, using it as an outlet for his emotions. His passion for big room and house music, as well as his drive to create amazing atmospheres and interactions with the crowd, propel him forward. Spending countless hours perfecting his craft, Leo is finding his own unique voice as a DJ, meticulously curating sets that resonate deeply with listeners.

Betsey B

With a voice described as "beyond her years", Betsey B's big, powerhouse vocals leave everyone feeling emotionally moved. Crowned as the Future Sound of Nottingham 2022, Betsey is one to watch. Her empowering aura is unforgettable and shines through her music through her great storytelling and raw, jazzy tone similar to Etta James and Amy Winehouse.

Little Planets

This female-fronted Leeds outfit are quickly becoming one of the most highly talked about Northern newcomers. They combine intensely personal, socially aware lyrical content and infectious, pop-oriented grooves. Their first few singles have been consistently plauded by the likes of BBC Introducing, and the band are maintaining their momentum and look set for a huge year in 2023.

Concrete Rose

Giving the classic Jamaican roots reggae sound a modern twist, Concrete Rose are a Nottingham favourite. Their unique blend of lively feel-good melodies, jazzy instrumentals and soulful harmonies create their instantly recognisable sound. They will be treating us to an acoustic set at Radfest 2023!

Jayahadadream

She smashed her recent performances at Dot to Dot and Green Hustle Festival, and she’s coming to Radfest! Jayahadadream is an independent rapper, singer, and producer. Her music is a merge of thought-provoking, storytelling lyrics with smooth, soulful hip-hop beats. Reaching new heights with her articulate cadence and melodic sound, she has performed across the UK and worked with artists worldwide.

The Hydes

Take five young men raised on the Manchester scene, 70s classic rock, grunge and 90s and 00s hip-hop; plant them in Leeds various music and arts colleges; add a mutual friend and evident chemistry on and off-stage; material born of frustration from Covid lockdowns; and here you have The Hydes. Formerly known as Mundane Arcane, this Leeds-based five-piece indie rock outfit is named after the crucible of its creation, the predominantly student-dwelled Hyde Park. Catch them headlining Radfest 2023.
