What’s that coming over the hill? It’s Discotech in the Park. Taking place on Derby’s Markeaton Park on Saturday 5 August sees a jam-packed day of some of the finest house, garage, and techno talent in the East Midlands. Celebrating the vast club scene in the region and beyond along with all sorts of extras, from actors and stage designers to producers and independent business owners, the countdown is on for a festival of fun…
We’re not normally ones to big up our pals over the border, but according to promoter Jordan Diston, Derby’s been “going through a cultural transformation lately”, and who are we to disagree? Co-headlining with garage legend Dr Banana, Nottingham’s own techno pioneer Lukas Wigflex is on the bill too - always a surefire stamp of approval we’re happy to oblige.
To be fair to our neighbours, Derbyshire is famed for its raves of the 90’s and 00’s with outfits such as Smokescreen, Wireless and DiY dipping their toes in the lush countryside, holding many of the raves which helped form clubbing culture in the UK as we know it.
Jordan explains their plan for the event “is to create an immersive venue like nothing seen in Derby before. We’re working closely with local artists to create an Alice and Wonderland theme you will truly get lost in. Expect secret rooms, actors, performers and so much more. We’re going for an intimate day festival feel with street food vendors, a chill out area and plenty of surprise trimmings... Our trusted Funktion One Soundsystem is back too (with a couple of extra stacks), along with some unreal stage design and lighting”.
Discotech in the Park is an ideal opportunity to experience the ongoing evolution of this club-loving city. The Discotech label has been pushing boundaries for 11 years now, gracing locations like Ibiza, Bulgaria and London (with Berlin, Ibiza, Amsterdam coming this year) and supported by some of the industry’s finest artists including Richy Ahmed, Ricardo Villalobos, Enzo Siragusa, Archie Hamilton, Chris Stussy, Toman, Raresh, Seb Zito and
many more…
The Discotech crew are limbering up for their next jaw-dropping move, and bringing all their rave culture love to the fore on this one. You can be the Alice to this Wonderland by grabbing yourself a ticket and joining in the dance.
We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
