A brand new community cinema is launching in Mansfield, with a focus on bringing Eastern European cinema to screens in the East Midlands.
Kino Koło Notts is taking over St John’s Centre in Mansfield on Friday 22 September, with a screening of cult classic The Cruise kicking off the action.
Shot in a quasi-documentary style, Marek Piwowski’s much-loved satire sees a weekend river cruise descend into a hilarious parody of the Communist system.
The showing of the film is taking place with the support of Cinema For All and the BFI.
Ellie from Cinema For All said: "We are delighted to be working with Kino Koło Notts - their passion, determination and ideas have been buzzing around for the last few months and it is great to see it result in this first screening!
“By bringing Polish film to the big screen they are not only providing a platform for more diverse cinema, but also an opportunity for audiences to meet and connect with each other."
Liam from Kino Koło Notts added: “I’m really excited for our first screening in my home town of Mansfield. I think it’s important that the local cultural offer is representative of the wider town; it’s a view that's shared by the whole team at Kino Koło.
“Film is a fantastic way to learn about other cultures, and we hope the whole town will join us in watching this much loved classic of Polish comedy.”
The screening takes place at 6.30pm on Friday 22 September, with tickets available now from Eventbrite.
