Taking place in a venue definitely too small for them, Fat Dog took to The Bodega with attitude and style...

Opening for them we had Nottingham locals Otala, who definitely pleased the crowd. But I couldn't help but think that maybe they’re a band with a gimmick that I just don’t understand - they are very far on the art rock spectrum, with unorthodox playing of strange scales and riffs.

This is not to say they didn’t put on a great performance; there were some amazing lyrics given out by spoken word, and they were definitely in the vein of their headliner and a good fit for the evening.

Their unique way of playing is going to gain them notoriety in all the right ways, it just personally wasn’t for me. But if you like art rock with indie and jazz trickled in, which has a really strange and interesting rhythm, then you need to check these guys out.

Then came the formidable London based headliners Fat Dog who entered with thunderous entrance music accompanied by plenty of barking from the audience. This band have an energy that immediately resonates with their fans, the pit opened, and it wasn’t long until I couldn’t stand still at all.

The Bodega floors were immediately bouncing and that little room was completely rocked with Fat Dog’s crazy energy that is completely unmatched to anything I’ve seen in the venue before. If you have the chance to catch this band, you would be very silly not to go; they have something for everyone, some spoken words for the rap fans, hard hitting drums and riffs for the rock fans, heavy synths and electronica for the techno fans, I cant think of anyone who wouldn’t enjoy seeing this band live, that is an absolute testament to how good they really are.

If you’re reading this Fat Dog, come back to Nottingham we will welcome you with complete open arms, you talent bunch of individuals.
