Hi Molly, thanks for chatting to us about your EP Burning Bridges. For those who might not have discovered your music yet, can you tell us a bit more about yourself?
I began singing at around seven years old and, after picking up a guitar again at fifteen, I started song writing every other evening. I then performed at talent shows, busking, and open mic nights, and have since progressed to headline venues around Nottingham.

You come from Nottingham, are there any Nottingham based venues on your bucket list to play?
Yes! I've had the pleasure of performing at many venues across Nottingham but I'd definitely love to be on the Rock City stage, to perform at Metronome or on a stage at the Splendour Festival.

Where we grow up can shape how we write and see the world. How do you think  your experience of growing up in the city has influenced your sound?
I definitely agree and I believe that growing up in such a small town has grown my ability to think outside the box and encouraged me to write the lyrics that I do. Nottingham is also a very creative city filled with many talented people who I am lucky enough to know and this has always been a bonus of being here!

You recorded Bridges with Jayahadadream on this EP, how important is it to you to collaborate with likeminded artists?
I love making art with like minded artists as it encourages our creative ideas to flourish and we can combine our different skills and ideas within each session. I also enjoy meeting new artists as it builds more connections within the industry and brings more opportunities for us all including making amazing friends.

You’ve previously said that you wanted to give the raw version of yourself on this EP. What did you hope to achieve with this EP musically and lyrically?
I definitely did give the raw version of myself through the EP and I hoped to reach the right audience who can relate to having to burn bridges with friends, family or loved ones and the inner struggles of doing so. The EP deals with issues of self-love, having to burn certain bridges and relationships in order to better yourself and why it's important.

Is there a particular song on the album that means the most to you?
The songs on the album that means a lot to me would be Unique and Wear Me Out. They showcase my emotions and how I felt at the time of writing them. Unique is about gaining confidence back after cutting off ties and loving yourself again, whereas Wear Me Out is how, even after cutting these ties, you sometimes still have them on your mind and how challenging that can be.

Do you have any advice to other artists starting out in the city?
Go to as many live events as possible, like open mics or gigs, to network and connect with like-minded people. It really helps get your foot in the door and make musical friends, as well as finding out where the best places to perform are.

How difficult was it to allow yourself to open up lyrically on this EP?
It was difficult for me to open up lyrically on this EP as it was like opening a healed wound and really diving back into some scenarios, and times in my life, where I had been hurt or most vulnerable. However it was also satisfying to let them be written down and told to people who would listen.

You recently performed at Hockley Hustle, how was that experience?
Performing at Hockley Hustle was so much fun, I was able to perform at a Queer Utopia event at GOAT, the ‘Can’t Stand The Rain’ stage in Juicebar, and also Mimm studios. They each had their own vibes and I truly enjoyed all of it. The pleasure of having people around me to listen to my new music from the EP, and that they seemed to love it, just encouraged me to write more!

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us Molly and good luck with the EP, it’s a great listen, but if you had to sum it up in five words what would you say?
Sincere, sentimental, powerful, honest and soulful.
