Every once in a while, a gig comes along that offers both the chance to listen to some awesome East Midlands-based bands and the chance to give back. This November, Mosh Against Cancer offered just this...

An all-day event at our city’s own Old Salutation Inn, Nottingham’s Mosh Against Cancer event is one of a host of gigs set up to raise horns and money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. This November’s event kicked off with a true up-and-comer: Beyond Your Design, fresh from their win at Nottingham’s ‘Metal To The Masses’ competition. The Metalcore group wowed the growing crowd with a setlist jam-packed with tidy riffs.

Next up, local boys Down In One, Blind Alice, and Balls Deep all brought their unique takes to hardcore tunes to the stage. From Down In One’s self-professed pounding rhythm to Blind Alice’s smooth tunes, each band that took to the stage did so with an effortless groove. After a setlist already so packed out with true headbangers, it was pretty hard to believe we were only half way through the day’s lineup.

Next on the bill, Leicestershire-based Doom Metal artists Mage. Their slow, melodic tunes packed out the house before Master Charger, the penultimate band in the lineup, took to the stage.

Finally, and all too quickly, it was time for the evening’s final group: Line Of Fire. And they certainly didn't disappoint the expectant crowd. The quarter closed out the show with another example of just how to get a crowd moving to the sound of guitar riffs and groovy vocals.

It's always an evening well-spent when a collection of music-minded people get together to share heavy vocals and heavier drum beats. And such events are even better still when working to help a worthy cause. If Mosh Against Cancer are back again soon, we’ll be first on the list to see what our local hardcore scene has to offer.
