Fancy yourself as a poet and want some training up?
Nottingham’s GOBS Collective is launching a new free programme of performance poetry workshops for fifteen adults. Six weeks of workshops, followed by two rehearsals will lead up to an spoken-word showcase at the prestigious Nottingham Playhouse.
So, why should you go for it? Well, the programme’s going to be led by professional poets Cara Thompson, a producer Nottingham Poetry Festival and UNESCO Cities of Literature Slamovision Winner; and Bridie Squires, who’s written poetry and drama for the BBC and performed alongside Lemn Sissay, Holly McNish, Henry Normal and Linton Kwesi Johnson. In other words, the GOBS gang will be in safe hands.
The focus is on both creating and performing your own poetry, GOBS tells us, alongside a supportive and welcoming group of people, with support from professional poets. Having finely tuned your live performance skills, you’ll then get to appear at the Playhouse as part of the GOBS Collective Showcase, having developed the show together with your peers during the workshops and rehearsals.
And it won’t cost you a penny! So, don’t have so much mulled produce over the next couple of weeks that you forget to send your application in.
Applications close on 7 January, and the GOBS programme will run weekly on Saturdays from 10 February until the final performance on 30 March

We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
