Classy jazz café and music venue Peggy’s Skylight was the ideal setting for the launch of Juga-Naut’s latest album, Bem II.
We were lucky enough to be given seats right at the front, centre stage, where you get the treat of table service and the option to dine on the delicious menu that Peggy’s has to offer. Where else do you get to experience top-class hip-hop at close range, while sampling fine wines and Middle-Eastern inspired tapas? We’ll wait.
Our prime-time seats allowed us to bask in the positive energy of the performers, perfectly complementing each other to lead up to the crescendo of Juga-Naut’s spellbinding performance to his hometown audience.
The hip-hop heavyweight, supported by acclaimed artists Oliver Rees with DJ Bassy, and Vandal Savage with LVNDLXRD, entertained a diverse and up-for-it crowd who had ventured out on a Wednesday evening to hear some of Nottingham’s finest lyrical talent.
Rapping almost solidly for an hour, Juga-Naut didn’t appear to tire, taking us on a poetic journey of culture, culinary mastery and complex emotions as he unveiled each track of his new LP, as well as some old favourites. The theme of Nottingham made a few appearances throughout the night. Our favourite track from the new album is the exquisite Sugarcane, which ‘Big Jugs’ describes as “hardcore hip-hop.”

We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
