More than 50 researchers and artists will be appearing in pubs between 10–15 May, as Pint of Science, the world's largest festival of public science talks, arrives in Nottingham.

Each night will provide a unique line up of talks, demonstrations, quizzes and performances held in a relaxed and informal environment.

The five themes of this year’s festival are:

  • Our Body (health, biology, medical)

  • Beautiful Mind (psychology, wellbeing)

  • Tech me out (technology, computing, maths)

  • Planet Earth  (environmental science)

  • Atoms to Galaxies (chemistry, physics)

Pint of Science was started by Dr Praveen Paul and Dr Michael Motskin, who met at Imperial College London as researchers. In May 2013 they held the first Pint of Science festival across pubs in three cities. It quickly took off around the world and now happens in nearly 500 cities. The festival has been running in Nottingham since 2016.

The only difficulty is choosing which of the brilliant events to go to!

Co-Founder Dr Praveen Paul said: “It’s fantastic to see how a simple idea between a few friends has captured people’s imaginations and pushed scientific research into the spotlight. We should all have an opportunity to question and discover the breadth of research that is taking place right here in the UK. None of it would be possible without our enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers who work so hard to bring you a programme packed full of inspiring events, and encourage us all to be curious. The only difficulty is choosing which of the brilliant events to go to!”

Venues involved in this year’s festival are (A-Z): Beeston Social, Blind Rabbit, Bunkers Hill, Canal house, The Carousel, Cosy Club, Liquid Light and The Star Inn Beeston.

Following a resounding success at last year’s festival, this year they are bringing back the creative touch of Creative Reactions, a programme where artists and scientists partner to inspire each other and produce artworks inspired by scientists’ research.

The full 2024 programme will see UK talks held in: Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Chelmsford, Colchester, Coventry & Warwickshire, Darlington, Durham, Dundee, Edinburgh, Egham, Exeter, Glasgow, Guildford, Hull, Kent, Leeds, Leicester, Lincoln, Liverpool, London, Loughborough, Manchester, Middlesbrough, Morecambe and Lancaster, Newcastle, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Portsmouth, St. Andrews, Salisbury, Sheffield, Southampton, Worcester and York.
