To celebrate the release of her Still The Girl EP, Notts sensation KAP took to the mic as guest host / artist-in-residence for one night only at Saltbox, supported by a diverse array of local talent…

I’m embarrassed to admit that despite Saltbox Presents having originated back in October 2023, this was my first time attending the event. But it was one not to be missed, with a stellar line-up of artists invited by KAP to support her EP launch, including EMiDORA, megs, Saffron Gray, KJ.i and Nikko.

After an open mic session, which demonstrated the diverse and varied array of talent in Nottingham (check out the photos below), EMiDORA took to the stage. She was also celebrating a release day, though not an entire EP, but a single titled i think i’ve drowned. She opened her set with this track, live looping it for the first time, followed by her first single under her new moniker, twenny one (happy birthday).

Next up, megs and Saffron Gray brought the RnB vibes, before K.Ji and Nikko turned the energy up to full volume.

Then, it was time for KAP to conclude the evening. Combining tracks from the upcoming Still The Girl EP with fan-favourites from her discography, including One In A Million, her first song to be played on BBC Radio 1, KAP demonstrated why she was crowned the 2024 Future Sound Of Nottingham winner earlier this year. (You can read LeftLion's interview with KAP here, where she speaks about her journey and what that win meant to her.)

After performing the UK garage version of her track All Night, which attendees could access by scanning the QR codes which had been placed on each table, she performed a track called Loving You, an older song of hers which has been reworked by her producer, Project Zeus, who has worked on the upcoming EP with her.

Speaking of the EP, it’s not out quite yet due to a few delays, but if this evening was anything to go by, it’s definitely one to keep an eye out for over the coming weeks.
