The Binks Yard outdoor terrace was recently transformed into an Americana extravaganza, coming alive with all things Rockabilly, including four of the UK's top bands of the genre, along with dancing, costumes and vintage American cars. Andrew McCartney was there...
Well, what an event that was. The Binks Yard team set up for the possibility of an indulgence into swing, rockabilly and early rock-and-roll. We weren't disappointed.
The Maybellines, probably the the most underrated rock 'n' roll tribute act in Nottingham, kicked off proceedings with a great set packed with classic songs. Those included Shakin' All Over and Pretty Woman, culminating in their signature tune Maybelline.
Kingshakes were up next. An energetic band known for their eclectic blend of rock, pop, and funk influences delivered catchy melodies and a dynamic performance that engaged so well with the crowd. Highway Junkies followed, performing their rich blend of rock and country tunes.
Finally, it was the turn of Midnight Shift, known for being an innovative band due to their fusion of alternative rock and electronic elements, shared their captivating melodies and thought-provoking lyrics culminating in a finale never to be forgotten.
Throughout the day we were also blessed with the dancing... What dancing! This was led with energy by the Lindyhoppers gang from Sneinton. And then there were the dresses... What fashion! Thank you ladies.
Of course, the team at Binks Yard looked after us so well from start to finish, creating and running a really great event. We can expect an even bigger audience next year; well done to everyone who participated.
The Rockabilly: Americana event took place at Binks Yard on 10th August 2024.
