LeftLion Interviews Podcast #4: Daudi Matsiko on Music, Songwriting, Depression and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves

reading time: min, words

The latest episode from our 'Live at the Library' podcast features British-Ugandan singer-songwriter Daudi Matsiko...

Daudi Matsiko is a Nottingham resident and a well known face in our local music scene. His latest album The King Of Misery is an exploration of depression, bipolar disorder, and finding hope in that experience, and it's not as miserable as it sounds.

His fragile yet powerful vocals, deeply honest lyrics, and modern folk melodies have earned praise from Gilles Peterson, Lauren Laverne, Jamz Supernova, Dean Jackson, Sian Eleri, Jamie Cullum, Tom Robinson, John Kennedy, Simon Phillips, and comedian and podcaster Adam Buxton.

Daudi talks to us about his songwriting and experiences of touring, as well as going into depth about some of the mental health experiences that have inspired his songs. On a lighter note we also quizzed him about his much-loved film, 1991 Kevin Costner epic Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

This interview was recorded in front of a live audience at Nottingham Central Library on Friday 6 September and was made possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England.
