Pelham Street came alive on Friday night, as The Bodega was filled with the intoxicating DnB-meets-anything goes sounds of NOISY. Daisy Carter-Davies was there to see – and hear – the action...
A Friday night outside The Bodega is always a good start to any evening, especially when in anticipation for alt/indie collective NOISY. We ended up hanging around longer than anticipated as the support were fashionably late (gave us more time to people watch on Pelham Street).
Once in, there was a rush to the bar before Hex Girlfriend made their entrance with a bang. The duo rushing the stage exploding into a wall of rock rave sound before a technical disaster struck, (this would become a common theme throughout the night) within the first few bars of their first song, the top string on the bass snapped; a sprint for a spare and the most speedy recovery I have ever seen, ensured the bass was back in sync for the closing chords.
Despite the technical problems, they were an amazing band to see on stage. If you ever get the chance, I encourage you to see live drum and bass. You do not even have to dance, just watch the drummer, I am sure you will break a sweat! After picking themselves back up and performing a great energetic set the room started to fill and we were ready for the headliner: NOISY.
For the next hour, the four walls of The Bodega transformed into a warehouse party with a mix of DnB beats and indie lyrics. NOISY bought the noise and the energy, getting every hand in the air within seconds of the first track. They ensured the crowd were part of the show with demands on mosh pits and a good time. They came, they played and delivered a wicked Friday night set.
I thoroughly enjoyed the mix of house beats and indie vocals akin to Rizzle Kicks. One of the highlights was when they played their most popular currently streamed song, Green Light, with 40,000 Spotify plays in the bag, they were drowned out by the noise of the crowd singing every word back to them.
Like Hex Girlfriend they suffered from a few technical difficulties but made up for it passing the time sharing jokes with the crowd before climbing back up on their horse and delivering a cracking set.
They played tracks from their 2023 EP release, Fast Fwd, keeping everyone bouncing then finished their high octane set with their latest single, All Of You. With this love letter to their mates, they smashed it out of the park. NOISY claim they will fuck you up on a Friday night but also call you on a Saturday morning to check you’re all right. Definitely a band for the weekenders and party animals.
NOISY performed at The Bodega on 18th October 2024 with support from Hex Girlfriend.
