With almost 50 albums in his cannon, King Creosote (aka Kenny Anderson) is in town to promote his latest long player, the Roman-themed I Des. Along with Emily Barker, in support and as part of the seven-piece band, the Metronome audience is treated to a performance packed with tender joy...
Buoyed on by a well-lubricated crowd full of hipster beards, plaid shirts and low key, but expensive looking outdoors wear, King Creosote provides us with 90 minutes of tender joy, including his new album I Des, performed in its entirety.
Opener It’s Sin That’s Got Its Hold On Us, is an anthem in the making for lapsed Catholics everywhere, while Burial Bleak and Walter de la Nightmare are both moving and intriguing in equal measure.
Backed beautifully by a range of instrumentalists, including wonderful accordionist Mairearad Green, most songs are caveated with a mirthful yarn of either its inception or tour bus hijinx, including two great tales about an Australian song-only karaoke contest with invisible instruments and a 4am pitstop at a McDonald’s where the presumably bemused staff are given a verbal coating for the state of the toilets by an apoplectic band member.
"I went back the next day, it was spotless - it obviously worked," quips Anderson.
King Creosote performed at Metronome on 22nd November 2024, with support from Emily Barker.
