Liv Presents: The Prohibition Roast is another of the amazing comedy nights lined up at the Lord Roberts and part of the wider Nottingham Comedy Festival. But with wit as sharp as broken glass, do you dare go down to the basement...
Sometimes, all you need in life is to watch five talented queens be absolutely horrible to one another and last night we were treated to as much bile, vitriol and sequins that could be crammed into a pub basement! Following on from the classic drag tradition of looking gorgeous on the outside whilst being rotten little bitches on inside- The Queen of Broad Street, Liv brought together her four most wicked witches for a night of shade, salaciousness and sickening sets.
It’s not all just cutting barbs however- as the first half consists of some stellar performances from all of our queens (the perfect way to build them up before tearing them down in act two)! We’re treated to a performance detailing why you should never invite Marilyn Sane to a funeral, found out what Nana Arthole got up to on her birthday (danced very sadly in a club), witnessed the best performance I’ve yet seen of Disease by Bella Bestia and a lipsynch by Vayne that she put her whole pussy into (pun intended). Finally, our glamourous host Liv gave us a Broadway worthy rendition of a Gypsy classic- although a more accurate Sondheim show would’ve been Sweeney Todd judging by that wig (that’s my one read for the review).
my god was it not for the faint of heart!
But the pièce de résistance was the roast itself, and my god was it not for the faint of heart! No topic was off the table, and I really hope these queens have a strong friendship and half decent therapist after all that because there were some very personal jabs being thrown around. They cut deep but they were certainly very effective in entertaining the audience. Don’t expect the queens on stage to be the only roast victims though, you’ll also get to find out a lot about the Nottingham Drag scene. Who’s sleeping with whom, who can’t take a joke and who really needs to stop trying to apply for Drag Race (seriously, at this point it just ain’t happening)!
If you want Liv, laughs but not a lot of love then I would definitely recommend checking out the next roast if you think you can handle it!
The LOL-GBTQ+ at the Lord Roberts runs from Saturday November 2nd to Saturday November 9th 2024.
