Bonafide Indie rocker Miles Kane returned to Nottingham with his one man band voyage. He graced the Rescue Rooms and left no one in doubt that he's still got it - and is on the up again....
Last year, familiar leather jacket donny Miles Kane returned to his finer form with One Man Band - a record rife with big hooks and even bigger anthems. With a deeply personal record in tow, Kane jumps on tour through a string of intimate dates with just a guitar and drums in his first 'one man band' tour set-up.
Before we were met with Miles at Rescue Rooms, we were treated to his fellow muso-comrade Michael Shuman. Taking a break from his usual arena shows worldwide with Queens of the Stone Age and Mini Mansions alike, bassist Shuman heads up his formerly darker solo project Glu, as he takes up frontman, and only man. Shuman harked back to his early roots as he performed MY DEMONS and COLD SWEAT to an equally intrigued Nottingham crowd, often admiring alternative-meets-electronic works - or perhaps trying to think where they've seen his face before.
Before too long however, Miles Kane emerged as he welcomed the city of Nottingham in the usual Liverpudlian drawl before setting the perfect introduction to the tour with One Man Band. The esteemed debut of his, Colour of the Trap, has many-a staple favourite among fellow indie rock fans as he pilfered through Rearrange, Inhaler and Don't Forget Who You Are. The glitz of former yester-years were not overshadowed however, as he also played tight numbers from 2015's Coup de Grace as Cry on my Guitar and Shavambacu earned a spot.Troubled Son got its flowers once again on tour, as the lead from his most recent slotted back in before he played homage to city legends Sleaford Mods with a rather colourful cover of Tweet Tweet Tweet, which arguably, contains some of the greatest lyrics that Miles has come across.
Miles also tipped his hat to fellow northern friend Alex Turner as he splashed out an acoustic tipple of Standing Next to Me from lyrical supergroup The Last Shadow Puppets. Of course, in true superior fashion, Miles finished up the set with magnetic closer Come Closer, an avid anthem fit for any sweltering indie-club banger or FIFA noughties king.
An iconic figure in the UK indie-rock scene since the '10s, with five colossal studio records to boot, a fresh and raw invigoration to live touring tells us all that the likes of Miles Kane has still got it.
Miles Kane performed at Rescue Rooms on 11th December 2024.
