The Sooty Show is British institution that dates back to the 1950s. A new family show featuring Sooty, Sweep, and Soo with presenter George Akid is coming to the Nottingham Arts Theatre this February half-term, with shows at 11.30am and 3.30pm on Thursday 20 February. We have four tickets to give away to a lucky winner.
The Sooty Show originally ran on BBC television from 1955-1967, before transferring to ITV from 1967-1992. It focuses on the mischievous adventures of the glove puppet character of the same name, alongside his friends Sweep and Soo and their handler. Other TV spin-off shows since then have included Sooty & Co (1993-98), Learn With Sooty (1989-91), Sooty Heights (1999-2000) and Sooty (2001-2004).
The characters of Sooty, Sweep and Soo were originally created by Harry Corbett. Corbett also presented The Sooty Show from 1955 to 1975, before passing it on to his son Matthew Corbett who presented it until the late 1990s. He then passed the torch onto illusionist, actor and screenwriter Richard Cadell who had been involved for several decades and in 2008 bought the global rights to the brand. This show is presented by George Akid, an entertainer and presenter who has previously worked on Scooby Doo Live and The Furchester Hotel Live!
Tickets for the show are available to buy for £13.50 each, with family tickets (2 adults and 2 children) available for £50. The two shows take place at 11.30am and 3.30pm on Thursday 20 February. Also appearing at the event is Jimbo's Magic Show, a children’s entertainer, puppeteer and magician from the West Midlands who has also appeared in episodes of The Sooty Show on CITV
