Three brave little Viking girls save the day in this bold and funny adventure story for little rebels...

Three Little Vikings 800 X 600 768X576

In a vibrant twist on Nordic folklore, Wrongsemble brings Bethan Woollvin’s Three Little Vikings to life on stage with a flair for creativity and a deep understanding of what makes storytelling irresistible to young audiences and their grown-up companions.

When three spirited young female Vikings—Wren, Helga and Ebba—detect a mysterious creature lurking and wreaking havoc near their village, they find themselves ignored and belittled by the adults, especially the Chieftain. Undeterred, the girls decide to take matters into their own hands (and swords), proving that bravery and wit can triumph over the most unexpected foes. After all, who’s to say the grown-ups always know best?

For Wrongsemble’s debut book adaptation, it does not show. The set design is a thrilling testament to the Viking lore sprinkled throughout Woolvin’s pages, seamlessly blending elements of fire, forest and folklore into a world that feels daring and magical.

conjuring up fearsome trolls that seem to loom over the audience

Through clever use of shadows and puppetry, the production plays with scale and imagination, conjuring up fearsome trolls that seem to loom over the audience, their claws sweeping ominously across the stage. These moments of tension are balanced with bursts of humour, as the girls' playful energy and determination light up the room.

Engaging the young audience with questions like, "Do you like fish and chips?" or encouraging them to cheer for the Chieftain and shout "Skål!" after a treasure haul, the performers create an immersive, interactive experience that keeps everyone hooked.

The musical score is a standout feature, with everything from rock-and-roll anthems to Viking-inspired bangers energising the action. The live performances are full of heart, with the catchy songs driving the narrative forward while shining a spotlight on themes of teamwork and courage.

The Three Little Vikings is a delightful and dynamic adventure, a celebration of youthful determination and Viking spirit, all wrapped up in a visually stunning and engaging theatrical experience. This production truly champions that even the smallest voices can make the biggest difference.

Three Little Vikings played at Lakeside Arts on Sunday 16th March 2025.
