Nottingham's most opinionated greengrocers discuss the World Cup, statues and Noel Coward...

World Cup
What are Scotland going to do? Apparently their fate is doomed. Last night they lost to Brazil, but they’ve got more chance of disco dancing with the Princess of Wales than winning that. But no, we don’t have any interest in the World Cup. We want England to do well, but we don’t give a damn. It's too tense to watch. Years ago we had flags of all the nations in here, but we didn’t think about it this year.

Statues
Who is Maid Marian? What does she look like? Are they going to make her look like a film star? There’s quite a few statues in Nottingham. Queen Victoria on the Embankment… but that used to be in the Square. Not normal men or women though. We’ve got Clough, but he was a celebrity. What about Stella Rimmington? She was head of MI5 and went to the girls High School.

Noel Coward
Brief Encounter is one of the best films ever made. That was Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard. The acting is super, and it’s the music, and the things you don’t see that make the film. Did he write Mad Dogs and Englishmen? That one is dead right, isn’t it.

We have a favour to ask
