A short chat with Bradley, who owns Heathcoat Street's Mecca for drinks and DJs: Jamcafé.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Working for myself, running my own business, trying new beers and wines, and meeting cool people.
What’s the worst?
Meeting uncool people and tasting bad beers and wines so you don’t have to.
What’s your best selling drink?
Our house beers brewed for us by Buxton Brewery and more recently our Romanian Orange Wine
What’s your most expensive drink?
We have a stunning bottle of Etna Rossa for £50 and a natural champagne for £55. Both bargains, to be honest.
Can you describe Jamcafe in three words?
Funky, European, Holiday.
What’s your personal favourite tipple?
It changes from week to week, depending on what we have in... I’m excited for the autumn wine list that I’ve put an exceptional Loire Valley Cabernet Franc on. Also Donzoko Brewery’s Big Foam series, last year, blew my mind.
Who’s the most famous person you’ve had drinking in your place?
Who haven’t we had in? Kidding… try Paddy Considine, Big Sean Dyche, Charity Shop Sue of course, and Ezra Collective’s James Mollinson played here.
What’s the best thing a customer has ever said to you?
I had a community of regulars over lockdown who very kindly said that I single handedly kept them going throughout. I delivered them beer on my bike and did a 10am DJ set on live, every morning, for 100 days!
How would you persuade someone who’s never visited the venue to entice them in?
Ask your mum, she’ll probably know about us. Failing that, we have a drink for everyone – come and check us out and maybe find your new favourite drink.
Find Jamcafé at 12 Heathcoat Street, N1 3AA
We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
